This season, Momotaro collaborated with Kyoto Montskuki Studio to create an Ultimate-Black denim for Momotaro’s worldwide fans!
Originating from the Kyoto Montsuki dyeing tradition, these techniques were used to dye garments worn by Buddhist priests and Samurai as formal attire. This dyeing method involves a slow and laborious process whereby base layers of red or indigo dye are applied before a natural black hand dye derived from betel nuts (Binroji) is applied multiple times. Each garment is hand-dyed by one of a small handful of highly skilled craftsmen, resulting in a super dark, ultimate black colourway.
This specially developed 15oz blood colour selvage ID denim has a silky-smooth hand touch and subtle uneven texture。 Thread-dyed using traditional kurozome Kyoto Montsuki techniques, this denim has an incredible, deep black look. With time, this denim will age to a high-contrast ‘black and white’ ageing look with a mild reddish hue!
