Studio D'Artisan 15oz Sumi Dyed Sashiko Type 2 Jacket
East meets West in SDA's latest Type II Sashiko Jacket!
The history of sashiko Japanese fabric has evolved from the tradition of continually repairing kimonos, which would be traditionally worn all year round. These days sashiko stitch-work patterns are incorporated for their aesthetic beauty and unique Japanese design!
SDA has taken the iconic Type II Jacket design pioneered by Levi's in the 1950s and constructed it using their specially-developed heavyweight sashiko fabric. The fabric has been Sumi-black yarn-dyed and will fade to a soulful, high-contrast look with time! Sitting at a medium weight of 15.5oz, this piece is perfect for easy wear year-round.
Woven with 6 vertical threads, and 5 horizontal ones, the sashiko fabric has been washed to get a slightly uneven texture across. SDA juxtaposes this with the slightly uneven 'vertical drop' of the denim itself underneath for a truly remarkable look.
Construction-wise this jacket is packed with a ton of interesting details! The black overdyed copper buttons will age and become shinier with use, while the custom 'boro' leather patch will patina and age to a soulful look! The pleated placket construction and waist button adjuster ensure you get the perfect fit!
If you are looking for a classic Type II jacket with a uniquely Japanese design, SDA could be a great choice!
