STUDIO D'ARTISAN 14OZ KAKISHIBU X INDIGO HICKORY DENIM (RELAXED TAPERED FIT)
Japanese traditional dying meets iconic American workwear!
Rooted back in the Heian period in Japan, SDA was inspired by the traditional dying techniques using persimmon. They call this Kakishibu!
Persimmon dyeing was originally used in China for its beautiful hue as well as its anti-bacterial properties. When it made its way into Japan thousands of years ago it became a very popular, precious technique. Even to this day, Kakishibu is still a popular and respected technique.
For this series, SDA has specially developed their hickory to an amazing level. First of all, this is made 'like in the old days' using vintage denim weaving machines and features a beautiful tonal selvage id. The vertical pattern has been woven using grand dyed indigo threads then complimented by natural cotton thread dyed with the Kakishibu technique. The overall look is subtle but will gradually reveal a strong contrasted look with many shades of grand indigo and Kakishibu dye coming out to make up for a golden indigo look.
Construction-wise, this pair uses traditional vintage chain stitching as well as single needle stitches. To increase durability polished copper rivets are used to reinforce the pockets and the inner pocket bags feature a double-layered opening. The button fly has been created with black coated iron buttons which will tarnish and gain patina with time.
