For its latest Greenebaum collection, Warehouse & Co. draws inspiration from some of the earliest denim garments of the late 19th century.
In 1873, Levi's revolutionised workwear by patenting the use of metal rivets to improve garment durability. Just a year later, the Greenebaum Brothers secured a patent for reinforcing their garments with leather instead. Reviving this long-forgotten construction method, Warehouse & Co. has faithfully recreated these remarkable early designs for modern enthusiasts. This striking jacket takes its inspiration from an original Greenebaum blouse of the 1880s, brought back to life with Warehouse's renowned attention to historical detail.
Crafted from Warehouse & Co.'s proprietary 11oz selvage striped duck canvas, this fabric is woven at an ultra-slow pace on a reconstructed vintage shuttle loom. The cotton yarns are sulphur-dyed, allowing the fabric to develop beautiful, high-contrast fades and a rich, soulful character over time, much like Warehouse & Co.'s signature raw denim.
Design-wise, this jacket features a single-needle construction that faithfully captures the character of authentic vintage workwear. The central waist pockets and sleeve openings are reinforced with natural vegetable-tanned cowhide leather, which will gradually develop a rich mahogany-brown patina over years of wear. The custom-developed black enamel-coated metal buttons, created exclusively for the Greenebaum collection, will also age beautifully, revealing an even more vintage appearance with time. Completing the design is a classic cinch-back, allowing you to fine-tune the fit while staying true to its late 19th century heritage.
