Inspired by the traditional Makau design—meaning “Fish Hook” in Hawaiian, this piece carries deep cultural significance. The Makau is a powerful symbol of happiness, prosperity, and a bountiful harvest. Rooted in Polynesian heritage, it represents strength, abundance, and a deep connection to the ocean. Reimagined through the artistry of Japan-made silversmith craftsmanship, this creation stands out as one of the most unique designs we have encountered. The fusion of traditional symbolism with meticulous Japanese metalwork results in a piece that is both culturally meaningful and exceptionally refined.
This pendant is crafted from The One OCEAN’s specially developed fine Sterling 925 silver and meticulously hand-built in Japan by the founder himself, Sho Narushima. Each engraving is individually carved, ensuring that no two pieces are ever exactly alike.
At its centre, a cavity is first carefully drilled into the silver body. Solid 18K gold is then transformed into fine granules and gradually packed into the hollowed core. Through controlled high-temperature fusion, the gold is slowly melted and unified with the surrounding silver — not simply set, but organically bonded. The surface is then carefully levelled by hand, allowing the gold to emerge as if naturally born from the silver itself, forming a radiant sun-like core. Surrounding the 18K gold centre, each ray of light is individually hand-engraved with a carving blade, one cut at a time. The result is a sculptural interplay of texture and brilliance — where molten gold meets carved silver in a harmony of fire and hand.
Over time, the sterling silver will naturally develop a rich patina, deepening in character and creating a striking contrast against the enduring radiance of 18K gold. The piece grows more distinctive and expressive with age — timeless, personal, and unmistakably crafted.
