Studio D'Artisan “Amami Mud-Dyed” Boro-Styled Worker Jacket

“The Magic of Amami Mud-Dyed!”
SDA's latest offering showcases the amazing mud dyeing techniques originating from the Amami-Oshima islands north of Okinawa. This ancient dyeing process, called "dorozome", dates back over 1000 years, using the unique dye properties of the mud and trees native to the small islands! This process, performed by highly skilled Japanese craftsmen, results in a garment-dyed fabric that is truly unique!
This jacket is crafted from a medium-weight jacquard knit fabric, specially developed by SDA and slowly woven on vintage jacquard machines to create a striking patchwork design inspired by traditional Japanese boro repair techniques. The coloured threads are hand-dyed using the Amami mud-dyeing method by highly skilled Japanese artisans. Over time, the fabric will develop a rich patina, aging beautifully into an even more soulful expression.
Design-wise, this jacket features a casual, relaxed fit inspired by vintage worker jackets. The raglan construction drapes elegantly and fits a wide range of shoulder widths. Twin waist pockets make this jacket highly practical, while the brass buckle waist adjusters ensure you can always get the perfect fit! Lastly, the polished nut buttons on the sleeve hems add some tasteful tonal contrast to the amami brown colourway!
If you are looking for an everyday casual jacket with an amazing “boro” design and traditional Japanese dyeing techniques, SDA is a fantastic choice!
