"Blacker Than Black!"

SDA has crafted a truly special black denim, utilising traditional “Kurozome” dyeing techniques that date back over 1,000 years. Originating from the Kyoto Montsuki dyeing tradition, these garments were worn by Buddhist priests and Samurai as formal attire. This dyeing method involves a slow and laborious process whereby base layers of red or indigo dye are applied before a natural black hand dye derived from betel nuts (Binroji) is applied multiple times. Each garment is hand-dyed by one of a small handful of highly skilled craftsmen, resulting in a super dark, ultimate black colourway.

This 14oz selvedge denim is slowly woven on vintage Toyoda G3 machines, giving it an uneven texture and a silky smooth touch. The warp yarns are first yarn-dyed in genuine indigo and then hand-dyed using the traditional “Kurozome” method. When brand new, this denim has an “Ultimate Black” appearance. With wear and washing, indigo hues begin to reveal themselves under sunlight, eventually ageing into a high-contrast “Black and White” look.

Speaking of details, this piece features an extra-thick black sulphur-dyed cowhide patch, embossed and finished with contrasting gold for a classy look. In terms of design, this modified Type III denim jacket has a slightly longer body length and twin hand-warmer pockets, giving this classic Type III style a more modern touch.

If you are looking for an “Ultimate Black” denim jacket, this is the perfect choice!
