This denim jacket takes its inspiration from the final evolution of the Type I denim jacket produced in 1941, a transitional model that still retained the signature flap chest pocket before it evolved into the wartime version, which omitted the pocket flap entirely. Today, this short-lived design is considered one of the rarest Type I variations and is exceptionally difficult to find on the vintage market. Faithful to its philosophy of recreating historic garments through a modern lens, Freewheelers has elevated this iconic design with superior materials and meticulous craftsmanship. The result is a jacket that not only pays tribute to this elusive transitional model, but also reflects Freewheelers' deep appreciation and thoughtful interpretation of wartime-era denim jackets.
Constructed from Japanese 14oz orange-coloured selvage ID mild-slub denim, which is slowly crafted on vintage denim machines and specially developed by Freewheelers exclusively for this Special Edition 1941 denim jacket. The denim has a smooth touch and features a subtle slub texture underneath. The warp cotton yarns are rope-dyed with grand indigo, which has a darker tone than the standard denim used in the 601XX series. With wear and washing, it will age beautifully to a high-contrast look, with a strong vertical texture gradually emerging over time.
Design-wise, the left chest pocket features Japanese lightweight denim lining for the flap with hidden rivets, 'V. West' red tab and an adjustable cinch back to ensure you can get the perfect fit!
