Studio D’Artisan 45th Anniversary “Amami Mud-Dyed” Limited Edition Denim Western Shirt!

This denim shirt showcases the amazing mud dyeing techniques originating from the Amami-Oshima islands north of Okinawa. This ancient dyeing process, called "dorozome", dates back over 1000 years, using the unique dye properties of the mud and trees native to the small islands! This process, performed by highly skilled Japanese craftsmen, results in a garment-dyed fabric that is truly unique!

Constructed with 8oz selvage indigo denim, which is specially developed by SDA to celebrate Studio D’Artisan’s 45th anniversary. It is slowly woven on a vintage Toyoda G3 shuttle loom, giving the fabric a distinctive texture and depth. The warp yarns are first rope-dyed in deep indigo, after which the entire fabric is hand-dyed using the traditional Amami mud-dyeing technique by highly skilled Japanese artisans. This meticulous process gives the denim an “almost black” appearance when new. With wear and washing, vibrant indigo hues gradually emerge from beneath the surface, evolving into a complex and beautifully contrasted “black and blue” patina. The result is a truly dynamic denim that transforms over time in a uniquely dramatic way.

Design-wise, we also love the natural black stone snap buttons, which pair beautifully with the 8oz denim and enhance its rugged, understated character.

If you are looking for a limited-edition denim shirt from SDA, this is an ideal choice!
