Here we have one of the best-of-the-best natural indigo hand-dyed garments available! Utilizing a centuries-old indigo dyeing technique from Tokushima, Japan called "awa-Ai", SDA has brought us these beautiful indigo sashiko trousers which are truly a work of art!
The "Awa-Ai" dyeing technique involves a painstaking and time-consuming process of fermenting indigo leaves for 100 days before being ready for dyeing. SDA's highly skilled craftsmen hand-dye the cotton threads over 10 times to achieve the beautiful sky-blue indigo colour. Compared with more common machine-dyed methods, this hand-dyeing process results in a more uneven colourway and a rich indigo colour with more and more indigo hues as it slowly fades with wear! Once the desired sky-blue colour has been achieved, the cotton threads are slowly woven into the 12.5oz sashiko fabric using vintage looms, before being cut and sewn by the most skilled Japanese artisans. Thanks to both the dyeing and weaving processes, the fabric has a silky-soft feel with a three-dimensional texture!
Construction-wise, SDA has spared no expense! With the Japanese lightweight natural indigo hand-dyed cotton twill fabric lining the pockets, waistband and yoke you can enjoy a different kind of ageing alongside the sashiko! These trousers feature hard-wearing binding construction, normally seen in high-end suit tailoring! Chain-stitching, hidden back-pocket rivets and the lining ensure these trousers will remain highly durable for many years to come!
Details-wise, these trousers feature a custom natural cowhide patch design which will age to darker mahogany colour with time!
