“From Ancient Matsusaka to Modern Wardrobes.”
"Matsusaka-Jima" fabric has been woven in Japan for over 1,000 years. Renowned for its understated elegance, it has been widely embraced by everyone — from ordinary townsfolk to revered shrines and temples. Reimagining this historic textile, Omoto Denim breathes new life into the tradition with a modern open-collar shirt that beautifully blends heritage craftsmanship with contemporary style.
This 8oz fabric is slowly woven on vintage shuttle looms, giving the shirt a remarkably smooth hand feel and beautifully irregular vertical textures. Each cotton yarn is meticulously hand-dyed with natural indigo by Japan's most skilled artisans, following centuries-old traditional dyeing techniques. Compared with conventional machine dyeing, this labour-intensive process requires more than ten times the effort. The result is a richer, more enduring indigo that fades at a slower pace, gradually revealing countless beautiful shades of blue through years of wear and washing.
Design-wise, we also really love the natural shell buttons, giving this shirt a more luxurious vibe!
