This classic Ichimatsu check pattern traces its roots back to the mid-Edo period (circa 1750s), made famous by legendary Kabuki actor Sanogawa Ichimatsu, who popularized the design through his signature kimono style. This shirt is constructed with Omoto Denim’s specially developed 8oz high-density selvage denim, woven slowly and tightly on a vintage denim machine. The hand-touch is silky-smooth and comes with uneven ‘check’ textures underneath. The grand indigo tone is thread-dyed, and with wear and wash, it will age nicely to a high-contrast look just like its other selvage denim!
Design-wise, we also love the cinch-collar and extra ‘Bar-Tack’ stitchings on the pockets, tributed of the early 50s vintage workshirt. The lightweight herringbone twill lined placket and triple-needle chain-stitching construction will make sure this shirt will last over years of wear!
