This Studio D'Artisan 14oz Indigo Dyed Dobby Workshirt carries a story rooted in passion and discovery. As our longtime friend Lake from Sydney shares:

“I’ve been a hardcore Japanese denim fan since 2005—back when I was still a young mate. In 2013, I was just wandering through Sydney when I happened to pass the old CORLECTION store. It felt like fate—I finally had the chance to get my hands on some Made in Japan gear without leaving the country. I was so stoked, I picked up this SDA 14oz Indigo Dyed Dobby Workshirt on the spot, and at a bargain too.”

"Before 2010, most "Made in Japan" cotton shirts were typically in the 5oz to 10oz range — lightweight to medium-weight, often inspired by vintage “Made in USA” garments. This shirt, however, was my first experience with a true heavyweight shirt.

I remember asking Lee from CORLECTION about it. He told me it was made from heavyweight dobby fabric — material usually reserved for Studio D’Artisan’s coverall jackets. This is the first time SDA has used such jacket-weight fabric in a shirt, and they executed it beautifully, using robust chain-stitch construction — all at a surprisingly reasonable price.

A 'jacketed shirt'? What a beautiful concept. I truly appreciate the innovation and craftsmanship behind it."

"I've been wearing this shirt for over five years now — almost every week. During the first three years, I wore it two days a week, every week, except for about three months each summer here in Sydney.

I washed it roughly once a month, whenever it got noticeably dirty or started to smell a bit. The first area to show signs of wear was the cuffs — they aged quickly. Since the shirt is made with thread-dyed grand indigo, repeated wear and washing slowly brought out beautiful, brighter indigo tones over time.

Another detail I’ve come to love: the natural nut buttons. They’ve become shinier with age, revealing more of their natural grain and character."

"After the first three years of wear, I started to feel the fabric weight had dropped — from the original 14oz down to around 9–10oz. It became much more comfortable and breathable, giving it a true “all-seasons” vibe.

Around that time, I reduced the wear to about once a week and started washing it every 1–2 months. Over time, I noticed the uneven, dotty texture becoming even more pronounced. And little by little, more vibrant indigo hues began to appear — almost like magic."

"After five years of continuous wear, I now only wear this shirt casually from time to time — mostly because I’ve kept adding new high-quality garments from CORLECTION to my rotation.

But this heavyweight dobby shirt still has plenty of life left in it. The indigo color remains rich, and remarkably, there are no areas worn through yet. What an amour! A true love that continues to age gracefully!"

"To be honest, sometimes I still find myself naturally reaching for this shirt — just for a day.

And sometimes, I’ve wondered why…

But now I understand.

It’s because, now and then…

Sometimes, I miss the Good Old Times..."
