FILE 005:Stevenson Overall Co 13.5oz 717-RXX Denim — 1 Year of Wear

This pair of Stevenson Overall Co 13.5oz 717-RXX Denim is worn by our Melbourne friend -- Charlie. As he puts it:

“One day, I crossed a new brand called Stevenson Overall Co at CORLECTION Sydney in 2011. I already knew this was my next pair of Japanese denim! I needed a pair of Japanese denim that was more vintage type, so that was why I chose this pair of SOC 717-RXX denim!”
As Charlie shared with us:

“Lee once told me—this pair of Japanese denim is inspired by the Levi’s from the 1880s. But Atsu, the founder of SOC, could only imagine what they looked like—because in the vintage market, the originals no longer exist in full form. Only scraps of denim from that era remain. So this is the perfect reflection of how Atsu envisions the 1880s Levi’s—through the lens of our modern world.”

“Lee told me this is a pair of ‘Blue-In-Green’ selvage denim. In its brand-new form, it starts off as a deep indigo—but with wear and wash, a subtle green hue slowly emerges from underneath.

To be honest, I’ve never seen a real pair of 1880s Levi’s in person. But after wearing this for just a few days, the feeling is… more than real.

It’s like wearing a piece of time itself—the 1880s, reawakened!"

“The texture was smoother than any Japanese denim I tried before, nothing too irregular; however, I did enjoy the process of ageing, the short vertical textured ageing formed, and I always loved to place my mini wallet in my front pocket and a lighter in my coin pocket, and see how they gonna affect my ‘Cat’s Whiskers’ fades ^^”

“One of my favourite designs from this SOC denim is the BUTTONS! I love how they redesigned the leather-backed doughnut button. Lee told me to FEEL the design, not just see it. Tick off the leather patch design and replace the cowhide leather on the back of the buttons...It is just UNIQUE! More durability, and I can still enjoy the ageing of leather from this pair of denim!”

“I also love the design of the backside of this pair of SOC 717 Denim, I love the ‘Smiley Back Pocket Design’ (as Lee described) and the paper ticket patch design... It is just RIGHT! It is right because I can feel the design is more like ‘Modern Twisted’! Nothing like ‘Fake Vintage Vibe’!”

“Because SOC 717 Denim is in a Slim Straight fit, that formed with a strong ‘Honeycomb’ fade on the back of the knee. Love the fading contrast when I stare at it again...That ‘Honeycomb Fade’ is the Ripples of Time...”

“SOC 717 Denim is finished by Single-Needle-Construction, not Chain-stitching hemming, so I asked a local tailor shop (quite shitty one) to do this hemming job for me, lol~ Don’t worry, it is just a part of the process, I don’t really mind ^^ Years later, I just realised that one thing, when you start to wear a pair of well-textured denim, you need to ask yourself one question, one question only...”

“WHY SO SERIOUS?”
