Drawing inspiration from the utility jackets of the early 1970s, originally known for their boxy, squared-off silhouette, our latest brand Sugar & Co. have reinterpreted this classic design with upgraded materials, improved construction, and a more refined fit — creating an elegant modern version whilst preserving its vintage character.

The shell is crafted from Japanese 11oz sanforized selvedge denim, slowly woven on vintage shuttle looms to achieve a smooth hand feel with a rich, uneven texture beneath the surface. Utilising grand indigo rope-dyed yarns, this fabric will gradually fade over time, developing a beautifully high-contrast patina unique to each wearer.

The body is lined with a Japanese micro-weight technical fabric that offers both water and wind resistance, providing this jacket with subtle modern workwear character suited for everyday wear. Lightweight and exceptionally smooth to the touch, the lining provides a silky interior feel without adding bulk — so light, in fact, that you may hardly notice the jacket is lined at all.

The collar and hem are finished with Japanese medium-weight corduroy lining which is sulphur over-dyed an indigo hue to complement the denim exterior. In time with wear, the corduroy will fade and age beautifully alongside the denim, developing its own rich character.

In terms of design, the jacket features a single left chest pocket, twin front waist pockets, and concealed back pleats that enhance mobility and ease of movement. Adjustable side tabs finished with beautifully engraved brass buttons allow for a more adaptable fit, making it easy to layer comfortably through different seasons.
